Mental Tune-Ups is…

A weekly newsletter that explores practical topics in psychology and offers tips that enhance mental health and well-being.  Many people don’t need formal therapy, but can benefit from psychological tips and tools.  The content of this newsletter focuses on building personal strengths and fostering resilience using evidence-based research and my experience as a clinical psychologist.  As a bonus, I occasionally throw in a little wit and humor (or attempt to) to help make psychology approachable.  Everyone could use a tune-up now and then.

Mental Tune-Ups isn’t…

A substitute for individual therapy.  If you are seeking treatment or have specific concerns you want to address, I recommend getting in touch with a licensed professional near you. Places to start include:

It’s nice to meet you!

Hi! I’m Kimberly Mallett, a Clinical Psychologist and Research Professor at Penn State University.  I split my time between my private practice and research.  Over the past 20+ years I have focused my writing energy on publishing research findings in journal articles for the scientific community to advance the field of psychology.  While I love what I do and my research has been impactful, I feel that my professional reach is limited.  Therefore, I wanted to branch out and connect with a different audience—you!  This newsletter allows me to share my favorite topics, useful tools, and practical skills that I use in my daily life, research, and clinical practice.

On a personal level I wear many hats just like everyone else.  I juggle (sometimes clumsily) work, family, friends, self-care, and a rescue pup who loses her mind if she is separated from me.  I also live in Colorado which means I am often cycling, hiking, skiing, or contemplating attempting some ridiculous feat of strength or endurance.
